After decades of having to wire up patients’ mouths and glue brackets to their teeth, dentists now have a much better system for correcting patients’ smiles. The technology behind the Invisalign orthodontic system offers our patients a better way to achieve a more even smile. We’ll explain this improved system to you. If you need orthodontic care, find out how Invisalign can offer you many unique advantages
With Invisalign treatment, you wear a series of clear, removable aligners that straighten your teeth gradually. These aligners exert gentle, continuous pressure on each tooth to get them to move. You might notice this pressure for the first few days of shifting from one aligner to the next in the series. Any discomfort is normally minor and is less than the discomfort patients with metal braces often experience.
This series of aligners is designed to keep your teeth shifting, one aligner after another, until your ideal smile is achieved. The aligners should be worn 20 to 22 hours each day, removing them only for meals and cleanings.
Both teens and adults can use Invisalign treatment to correct their smiles. They can be worn just on the upper or lower teeth, or both if needed, to correctly align a smile. Typical treatment time is 12 to 18 months depending, of course, on the complexity of the orthodontic case. Your teeth should begin looking more even in a matter of weeks, however.
Anyone who has worn metal braces knows that they can be a hassle. Adjusting them sometimes causes headaches, they can irritate the inside of the wearer’s cheeks and then there’s that mouthful of metal. Because it’s harder to keep teeth clean with metal braces, there may be an increase in tooth decay or gum disease.
Invisalign enables you to avoid these problems and many others. Here’s a list of the benefits:
If you are in or near the Washington, D.C. area, we invite you to visit our office in Tenleytown for a consultation.
We will start by taking images, scans and measurements of your smile. You’ll be able to preview your new smile after we’ve scanned your teeth. Our information is then sent to the technicians at Invisalign. They use this data to design your new smile. Their designs are used to 3-D print a series of clear aligners. Each of these aligners will have a number printed on them.
Your clear aligners are then sent to our office. We will call you in and go over the system of treatment with you. We’ll make sure the first aligner fits perfectly and comfortably. You’ll receive instructions to wear the first aligner for a week or two and then switch to the next aligner in the series. You’ll follow this procedure all the way to the end of your treatment.
Aligner by aligner, your teeth will be eased into their ideal positions. Finally, you’ll have an even, beautiful smile that is much easier to keep clean and healthy.
Invisalign enables you to avoid these problems and many others. Here’s a list of the benefits:
Most cases requiring orthodontic treatment can be corrected with Invisalign. Even complicated problems with one’s bite can be corrected. Invisalign can be used to correct cases with problems like these:
You’ll be wearing the aligners day and night, only removing them for meals or to brush and floss your teeth. You may want to remove them for special photographs, a wedding or speaking engagement. But leaving them in every hour possible makes your treatment time as short as possible. A person who removes them too frequently or for too long may not see the results they want as quickly as desired.
As your teeth gradually shift into their correct positions, we will ask you to come in so we can check your progress. We will probably see you about every four to six weeks.
If there is any problem with the fit of an individual aligner, this can be corrected when you come to our office. They are designed to fit snugly against your teeth so there should never be a problem with them slipping or shifting. Your aligners are easy to take care of, only requiring a little cleaning.
Invisalign treatment often takes less time than conventional braces. But that’s only when these clear aligners are worn consistently, night and day.
Each time you switch you a new aligner, your smile is one step closer to being ideal. But perhaps best of all, the fact that you are receiving orthodontic care will not be obvious. Many people may never even notice that you are wearing these clear Invisalign aligners. They’ll only see your improved smile.
We invite you to visit our office to find out how your smile can be improved with Invisalign. We specialize in maintaining a friendly and warm atmosphere that can make even the most anxious patient more relaxed.
